Don’t Let Your Musculoskeletal System Suffer!
Mobility and Flexibility
This week is Bone and Joint Health National Action Week, so we’d like to take the time to pay some close attention to your musculoskeletal system. If you suffer from musculoskeletal ailments like neck pain, back pain, or sciatica, chiropractic care can help. Here’s what you need to know.
It’s In the Research
Researchers have studied the findings from patients who suffered from hip, spinal, and/or shoulder pain. Of this control group, 403 patients went to a medical doctor for relief and 316 people went to the chiropractor. The results after four months of treatment leaned in favor of the benefits of chiropractic care, particularly spinal manipulations.
Chiropractic Care for Pain Relief and More
Spinal manipulations are really any type of therapeutic movement of the spine which specifically applies pressure on a joint between two vertebrae. Most research on chiropractic care focuses primarily on spinal manipulations for back pain. This is for good reason, as that is the most common problem adults face as they age.
Chiropractic care can help resolve issues beyond back pain including asthma, headaches, and digestion. This is largely because the spine is part of the central nervous system, which is the main communication hub for the entire body. Therefore when the spine is healthy, the central nervous system is healthy, and the rest of the body systems follow suit.
Do Chiropractic Adjustments Hurt?
When done correctly, spinal adjustments restore the proper position of vertebral joints that protect the nerves in the spine which then gives the body its ability to heal the source of pain. As an example, the body’s natural response to pain is often a muscle spasm, particularly when the pain is related to ligaments or muscles. So, in order to eliminate the pain, the source needs to be treated.
Restoring proper communication in the nervous system allows the body to function optimally and to perform its natural ability to heal itself. By putting pressure on specific nerves, chiropractic adjustments can restore range of motion and proper position which can reduce or even eliminate the source of pain.
At Williamsburg Chiropractic, our chiropractors restore the proper position of the vertebra through chiropractic adjustments and maintain that correction to allow for proper healing.
