Once some time has passed after the meal, light exercise will put some of those Thanksgiving calories to work. The more calories you burn, the less impact the meal will have. This can also help if you’ve got your eye on seconds of your Aunt Gilda’s pie.

Exercising after Thanksgiving dinner doesn’t have to involve lifting weights or doing HIIT. It can be something as simple as taking a walk around the block or climbing the stairs down to the ground floor and back up. Better yet, it’s something you can involve members of your family in—invite them out to go for a stroll so you can catch up, or see if anyone is up for a game of H.O.R.S.E.

It’s also a solid idea to get in some exercise before Thanksgiving dinner. This will allow you to go into the meal with a caloric deficit, and it can help your metabolism and energy production so that you can be more active during the evening’s activities.
