Thanksgiving prep is in full swing, and we are focused on gratitude (and lots of food!). The holidays can also be a time of stress, overindulgence, and stomach aches. Here at Williamsburg Chiropractic, we want all of our Brooklyn patients to enjoy a happy and healthy holiday. Here are our tips!

Stay Hydrated

Drinking lots of water is important at any time of the year, but especially before a big meal. Being hydrated helps your body know if you are actually hungry or just eating for the sake of eating! Drink plenty of water throughout the day to help suppress your appetite and keep you from sneaking bites of pumpkin pie before the big meal!

Eat Before Your Feast

You might thing fasting before your Thanksgiving feast will help you save on calories, but it typically leads to overeating. Start the day with a well-rounded breakfast so you stay satisfied and energized throughout the day. Instead of snacking on chips and dip, opt for crunchy veggies and healthy dips. You can still snack, just do it responsibly.

Take Your Time

It takes approximately 20 minutes for your stomach to tell your brain that you’re full, so take your time as you eat. Most people overeat during those 20 minutes, leading to stomachaches later on and pacing yourself can help. Take pauses between bites and truly savor just how delicious your Thanksgiving meal is.

Take a Post-Turkey Stroll

After all that turkey, you’ll probably feel like lounging on the couch but going for a walk can get your digestive system moving. Get your friends and family together after eating for a walk around the neighborhood. This will also help burn off some of the calories you’ve just consumed and is a good way to stretch after plenty of sitting.
