Our Daylight Saving Tips
Health and Wellness
It is that time of year when we spring ahead and lose an hour of sleep. Maybe you welcome the change, as it means longer days and the start of spring or maybe you hate that it throws off your (and your family members) sleep schedule. Whether you love it or hate it, there are many mistakes you can make when it’s time to alter your perception of time. Here are our daylight savings time tips.
Don’t Skip Exercise
You’ve lost an hour of sleep and you are tired, making it that much hard to get going with your workout. But this is exactly the time when you most need to make it for your regular workout. The added stress of waking up earlier than your internal clock is used to is hard on your body, which means you need to maintain your stress outlets to stay healthy – including exercise.
Don’t Overschedule Yourself
You can’t necessarily maintain the same schedule for the first few days of daylight savings time simply because these days feel different. Research shows that work performance suffers in the days following a time change for the simple reason that people are tired. Despite your fatigue, you can’t stop everything in life to get adjusted, so try to keep your schedule light.
Don’t Skip Meals
Sleep deprivation and stress are a serious combination when it comes to your overall health and wellness. A result may be that you’re craving foods that aren’t great for you. One way to avoid caving to these cravings or skipping meals altogether is to plan your meals ahead of time to stay on track. We suggest planning out your menu for the week to help keep you on course.
DO Take Advantage of the Extra Light
The bright side (no pun intended) of daylight saving time Is more sunlight. Give yourself the time to take advantage of an extra hour of daylight. You’ve spent all winter long hunkered down, so soak it up and take a bike ride or walk after work. Just do something to get up and get moving!
