Our Tips for a Healthy Holiday Season
Seasonal Tips
The holiday season is in full swing and this festive time of year is full of family, friends, fun, and celebration. As much as we enjoy the holiday season, it can also bring about some unwanted guests — think stress and overeating. Here are our tips to help you enjoy a healthy holiday season.
Want to stay healthy? Stay hydrated!
Hydration is essential to a healthy body no matter what time of year, but the non-stop action of the holiday season means we often forget to drink water. Water aids the body in flushing out toxins, digestion, achieving proper sleep, maintaining clear skin, and so much more. As you travel, party hop, and shop, remember to bring your reusable water bottle with you and make a goal of drinking half your body weight in ounces each day.
Everything in moderation.
Who doesn’t love all the savory dishes and sweet treats of the holiday season?! As important as it is for you to eat healthy in order to maintain a healthy body, you should also allow yourself to indulge every once in a while. This time of year is the perfect time to cozy up with cocoa and cookies, just keep moderation in mind. Maintain your routine of eating well-rounded meals so you can feel your best through the holidays.
Wash those hands.
This tip seems obvious, but it’s especially important during the winter season. Most people call this time of year “flu season”, but we are often more susceptible to illness due to dehydration, sleep deprivation, lack of Vitamin D (less time in the sun!), and/or not washing hands enough. Plus, we typically spend more time indoors and see more people, increasing our exposure to cold/flu. To prevent yourself from getting sick, wash your hands as frequently as you can and especially before eating.
Catch up on sleep.
It seems like there are a million things to do during the holidays: decorating, shopping, wrapping, baking, and more! It can be stressful and overwhelming. You might think you should put off sleep in order to accomplish more, but you are only putting your physical and mental health in jeopardy. In order to properly recuperate and repair, your body requires restful sleep. So get done what you can in a day, then turn off the TV and power down your phone and get 7-8 hours of sleep.
