Spring Driving Safety Tips
Seasonal Tips
Spring has just about sprung, and that means a few things. Namely, warmer weather and a nice excuse to drop what you’re doing and get out of Brooklyn for a few days. But you can bet that you won’t be the only one with the same idea when you hit the road, and that’s why it’s important to brush up on some handy spring driving safety tips.
3 Spring Driving Safety Tips
Don’t Get Distracted
This is the kind of thing that should go without saying but nonetheless bears repeating: Do not drive distracted. Texting and driving is both dangerous and illegal, but anything that takes your eyes off the road can have tragic consequences. When you’re behind the wheel, keep your focus in front of you. If you need to renavigate or change the radio station and can’t do it with hands-free or voice commands, ask your front-seat passenger to do it for you.
Take Your Time
It’s spring break—the last thing you should be doing is rushing anywhere. Try and give yourself some extra time on the road by leaving a bit earlier for your destination. A few extra hours of lead time can help knock down the stress levels considerably, especially if it means avoiding a time of day when traffic is higher. Plus, if you leave earlier, you’ll have more time to make unscheduled stops for snacks, go to the bathroom, and stretch out to keep your muscles loose.
Refocus on the Basics
Any time you’re getting behind the wheel for a longer drive, it’s a good time to focus up and go over the basic rules of the road. Remind yourself of the essentials like not following too closely, staying within the speed limit, and using your turn signal any time you change lanes. Before you leave, you should also make sure everything is up to snuff—check your mirrors, make sure your tires are properly inflated, and test all your exterior lights to ensure that everything is in working order.
