Chiropractic Care for Tennis Elbow
Chiropractic Care
Whether you are an avid tennis player or hit the courts every now and then, you may have experienced tennis elbow. The symptoms of tennis elbow include weakness in the wrist and hand, tenderness in the arm, pain when bending or lifting the arm, pain when gripping, and discomfort for three weeks onwards. Tennis elbow is a muscle overuse injury that occurs when you have used your arm in the same manner repetitively for a significant amount of time without letting the muscles relax and recover. Often, this will lead to pain, strains, inflammation, scar tissues, and strength loss. There are ways for chiropractic to help with tennis elbow pain and get you back out there without medication or invasive treatments. Here’s what you need to know.
Tennis Elbow Treatment
There are really two parts of an elbow treatment like this. Both have multiple steps and will change depending on your unique situation, but the major pieces are all pretty consistent between patients. Often, we will suggest using a hot or cold pack for the first few days before coming in to see us. This helps to reduce inflammation and repair and relax any damage before you come in. Then, once you are in a session with us, we will usually end up using adjustments to break up the scar tissue that may have been built over the problem muscles. In some cases, an elbow brace may be needed, but it is rather rare. Many patients report feeling better after just one adjustment, but it’s important to maintain care in order to properly rehab the muscles in your arm.
More About Tennis Elbow Pain
There are actually exercises that you can do to help avoid tennis elbow. This includes a few minutes of stretching before and after your activity. You should also consider thinking about how your movements are affecting each of the muscles in your body. Just like you should lift with your legs, you should not be swinging the racket with your wrist limp. Review your techniques and any sort of equipment before beginning an activity. Tennis elbow treatment is usually easily resolved, but it is far better to just avoid tennis elbow altogether.
