Thanksgiving Travel Tips
Seasonal Tips
We cannot believe it, but Thanksgiving is just a little over a week away. If you plan on celebrating with family, you should know that Thanksgiving travel can damage your health, especially your spine. Check out our tips for the holidays that help ease your travel pain!
Traveling Tips For the Holidays
Travel By Air:
If you are traveling by air, consider the weight of your luggage. Packing light can help avoid travel pain like back, neck, or shoulder strain. On the other hand, heavier bags mean more weight to carry throughout the airport and more hassle to place in overhead compartments. If your bag is more than ten percent of your body weight, make sure you check it for the flight. A carry-on may be more effortless, but you should prioritize your health.
Keeping seated when flying is best, especially since airlines may want you to do so with the additional COVID-19 precautions. However, you can still stretch and move around. You can maintain circulation by doing exercises like foot lifts, giving yourself a mini leg massage, staying hydrated, and propping your feet up on a bag.
Travel By Car:
If you are traveling by car, consider your comfort. Wearing comfortable clothing and having back support in your seat will help alleviate the travel pains of long car rides. Prevent stiffness with light stretching like rolling your shoulder back and forth or slightly shifting in your seat. Promote circulation by turning on cruise control and rolling your ankles.
The best thing about car travel is you can break it up. It is a great idea to schedule short breaks at rest stops to get out and walk around. These short breaks will allow you to stretch out and give your body a break.
Don't Forget Your Chiropractor
Don't forget to include chiropractic in your to-do list when preparing for your trip. Long periods of sitting can cause pressure to build up in the blood vessels in your lower legs and strain your neck, shoulders, and back. Williamsburg Chiropractic can alleviate your pain and keep it from returning by restoring your body to its proper alignment.
