Travel Tips for the Holidays
Seasonal Tips
For most families, holidays involve travel. Whether you're jetting off to see extended family or driving to your parents house for the day, it's important to be aware of the best ways to avoid stress and discomfort while traveling.
Whether you're driving or flying, you and your family will still be confined to a small space for extended periods of time which is no fun for you or your spine. There are a few things you can do to avoid some of the stresses that come along with travel:
Pack Light
Don't pack your bag so that it's too heavy for you to lift into the overhead bin of a flight. No matter the weight of your bag, be sure to lift it into the overhead bin in stages. From the floor to the armrest, then to the bin.
Take Breaks
If you're flying get up as soon as that fasten seatbelt sign turns off. Walk up and down the isle at least once every hour. If you're driving, make sure to take breaks every couple of hours as well!
Create Lumbar Support if It Isn't An Option
Most airlines provide you with pillows. Place that pillow between your back and your seat to offer up extra support for your low back. If you're in the car make sure you have the lumbar support on your seatback set up, and if you don't have that option make sure to bring a pillow with you!
Traveling is almost always stressful, but if you take these steps to make yourself as comfortable as possible it should be a little more doable. If you have any of your own tips please share them in the comments below!
