Seasonal Tips

We aren’t suggesting that you completely avoid all the treats this Halloween, but keeping bags and bags of candy around the house isn’t healthy for anyone. Here are a few healthy suggestions to help you and your family have a healthy and happy Halloween.
Scary Good Snacks
As consumers have become more and more health-conscious, there has been an increase in healthy alternatives that still taste delicious. Choose candies that are all-natural or hand out individually wrapped fruit snacks or crackers. There are even Halloween-themed granola bars, raisins, packs of pretzels, and pumpkin seeds (which go perfectly with the holiday). Make sure the healthy options you choose are individually wrapped for safety.
Can You Get Away With No Candy?
Kids don’t just go crazy for candy. There are plenty of fun Halloween themed products to hand out to trick-or-treaters. Temporary tattoos and stickers fun for kids without loading them up with sugar. You can also pass out small toys from your local party store. Not only are they fun to play with (think glow sticks, spider rings, or other spooky toys) but they are also a great distraction from eating too much candy.
Don’t Forget Dinner
To keep your kids from loading up on too much sugar, be sure to feed them a well-rounded meal before they go trick-or-treating. If you make it fun, they won’t even notice they are getting a healthy meal that keeps them from filling up on sugar. Be sure to include fiber, complex carbs, and lean protein so you can your little ghouls will have plenty of energy for a frightfully fun night.
Don’t Keep all the Candy
Don’t drag on the Halloween fun for too long. Keeping leftover candy around for months and months after the holiday, continuously snacking until it’s gone, is no way to ring in the next round of holidays. Bring leftover candy to your office or pass it along to friends with a more serious sweet tooth.
