The Rules of Workplace Ergonomics
Injury Prevention
Workplace ergonomics and proper posture are important in everyday life and can impact your health. Considering how much time you spend at work, having an ergonomic workspace is a good idea. These ergonomic tips can help you practice better posture, so you feel your best.
Workplace Ergonomics: What Is It?
The term 'ergonomics' refers to a spectrum of studies that meld together to help you (the worker) create a better work environment. An ergonomic workstation is explicitly designed for the worker. The idea is relatively widely known, but sometimes workers have to adjust to their environments rather than the other way around. If you adjust yourself to your workspace and not your workspace to you, you will end up in your chiropractor's office complaining about back and neck pain. By understanding and creating an ergonomic workspace, you save yourself from unnecessary pain or discomfort at your place of work.
Keep Things Within Reach
Keeping things you regularly use at a comfortable distance to reach is essential in workplace ergonomics when you work at a desk. When you constantly move to get something, your body will become tired and more uncomfortable. Therefore, the objects you use most often should be placed at a distance you can reach with your elbows still bent and close to you.
Adjust Your Chair for Proper Posture
It may seem like you are constantly looking for a comfortable position when you sit in a chair all day, sometimes without even noticing it. A properly designed ergonomic chair will allow you to maintain proper posture. Your upper arms and lower legs are vertical, your forearms and thighs are horizontal to the ground, your lower back is always supported by the chair's back and your feet are planted on the floor.
Position Your Computer Screen at Eye Level
You can harm your neck and shoulders if you have to look down at the computer screen to see it constantly. Therefore, when looking at the computer screen, your eyes should be parallel to the top of the screen, your monitor should be between 18 to 30 inches from your eyes, and the screen should be tilted between 15 and 20 degrees.
